Quick Flip or Slow Flip – Which is for You?
So you are ready to flip websites, get rich and live like a pharaoh? (Or at least make enough to pay the bills?)
Not so fast….
There are many approaches to flipping a website. And before you start any website at all, you need to know which approach you are aiming for. The wrong approach is going to leave you tired and disappointed. Don’t lift a finger until you know what all the steps are, right down to accepting that big, fat check from your buyer.
Right now, I will stay away from the more exotic permutations of flipping. I mean, the guys who own Twitter could flip their site tomorrow for untold millions. Technically, we could then say they made that money flipping websites and be sort of right. But lets stick with the here and now, and how to start making money for yourself. If you create the next Twitter along the way, donations are always welcome!
For this site, there are two main approaches I speak of. The quick and the slow. There’s no reason you can’t try both at the same time, as long as they are not for the same website. But, I would caution you, especially when you’re just getting started, not to spread yourself too thin.
Just pick a course and see it through to start with.
So here’s the breakdown:
WEBSITE FLIPPING the SLOW WAY
As so well explained by Max over at Buying and Selling Websites, this will take on the average somewhere between 6 and 15 months for each website you flip. You can use the same method and flip a site within a month, but you are likely to see a smaller return. The time is needed to build a website’s value and revenue stream. This in turn will attract bigger buyers and give you a much bigger payday when you finally sell. If you have some idea what you are doing and you’re not in need of immediate cash, this is a good way to go in the long term. All of your sites will be revenue generators, which means you will feel comfortable waiting for a good offer. This is a solid business model, and unlikely to be hurt by swings in the economy. Unless people are suddenly no longer interested in making money, you can build a strong and reliable income this way. If you want to know more about this, just go over and listen to Max. I say listen because there are a couple of very informative videos on his sales page. In fact, his sales page alone is worth reading just for the great free info. If you do sign up, he hosts a masterminds forum where you can share thoughts with other flippers that is really quite priceless.
Remember, it’s the slow flippers who sell their sites for 10s or even 100s of thousands of dollars.
WEBSITE FLIPPING the FAST WAY
Say you want to get off the ground quicker. That’s fine…there are perfectly good reasons for this – not least that you need to pay the rent or feed your kids. It’s also good to have income while you are learning about the market and building your skills.
Another good reason is that quick turnover is a confidence booster. By quickly making sales, and making them regularly, you take away the doubt. And doubt is what kills so many great ideas.
So, by the quick method, you start getting income as fast as you can knock together a site. Sure, the site won’t sell for 50 thousand, but it will make a nice profit for you.
It’s like getting paid to learn.
$400 for a couple hours of work at home is nothing to sneeze at.
For this approach, I will point you to Sheryl, a working mother in Australia. She’s got kids, and she got into web flipping to help pay for them. She also needed a way to make money at home, something she could get done even between changing diapers, wiping noses and bandaging scraped knees. Between all this, she has grown a successful home business by quickly building and selling websites in way that will continue to bring her residual income for years.
The thing about here method is this…
She teaches everything in a very step-by-step method, not leaving any gaps. You won’t be told to do something without a clear explanation of how to do it. This is especially a good course for beginners, or for intermediate folks who want a quick jump in income.
All very ground-up and newbie friendly.
Take a look at Sheryl’s Site Biz Academy course right here.
The great thing here is that she provides a whole bunch of free website and WordPress templates so you can start a site without any coding. On top of that, her bonuses include a guide on how to build traffic – certainly something you will use throughout your flipping career.
